OTOOPLASTIC

Very often floppy ears cause aesthetic problems and psychological disorders in young children, due to the teasing they receive from their peers.

Η Otoplasty surgery can be done in one or both ears. It is found in 5% of newborn children with the same proportion in both sexes.

It can be done under local anaesthesia (or general anaesthesia in young children) from the age of 6 years where the fins are restored to their normal size and shape.

The results are permanent and spectacular. Such a small intervention can dramatically change the life of a child and improve the life of an adult.

Forward protruding ears (floppy ears) are common in both men and women and often cause psychological problems in young children.

Η otoplasty is the operation to repair a common congenital abnormality of the wings called the inferior ears or floppy ears.

This abnormality is easily treated under local anaesthesia from the age of 6 years (up to 60) with surgery, which returns the fins to their normal size and shape.

WITH A MOMMA

Anaesthesia: Local or neuroleptoanesthesia (intoxication).
Places: Clinic or Organised Medical Practice.
Duration: 1 – 2 hours.
Eve: Not required.
Pain – Discomfort: moderate, taking painkillers on day 1.
Swelling – Swelling: Usually up to 1 week.
Bandages – (gauze): bandages around the head for 6 – 8 days (possible discomfort) and a ribbon – only for sleeping – for 1 – 2 months.
Stitches: Absorbable, no removal required.
Bruises: When they exist, they last 7 – 10 days.
Work: The only restriction is the bandage around the head.
Exercise: After 2 weeks. Avoiding contact sports (e.g. martial arts) and ball use (basketball etc.).
Final Result: In 1 month.

THE INVASION

It is usually done under local anaesthesia, so no special preparation is needed.
If neuroleptoanesthesia (intoxication) is given, the patient must come in fasting.
With an incision made in the skin behind the ear, the cartilage is redrawn and placed closer to the head. After the operation, a bandage protects the ears for a week.
The effect is permanent.

THE RENEWAL

Elastic bandage for about 5 days.
On the 1st day mainly possible taking analgesics (Depon etc.) to relieve any pain.
Antibiotic treatment for 4 days.
After removal of the elastic bandage, a “tennis ribbon” should be worn during sleep for about 30 days.
Avoid ball and contact sports to avoid injuries.
