Very often gynecomastia in men reduces their self-confidence, they find it difficult to wear tight-fitting T-shirts, they often avoid crowded beaches, and even their relationships with the opposite sex are affected. The purpose of the intervention is removal of excess fat and mass gland from the male breast, as well as in some special cases the removal of loose skin. The desired result is a better shaped and firmer male chest.

WITH A MOMMA

Anaesthesia: Neuroleptoanaesthesia (intoxication) usually, more rarely general anaesthesia.
Places: Clinic or organised clinic.
Duration: 1 hour.
Eve: Usually not necessary, except in special cases.
Pain: Moderate, painkillers may be needed for 1-2 days.
Swelling: 2 – 3 weeks.
Stitches: Absorbable, do not need to be removed.
Bandages – Gauze: Removal on day 1 and then for 1 month application of the special vest.
Work: many times it is possible the next day. It usually needs 1 – 2 days of rest.
Exercise: Return to the gym in 2 weeks.
Final Result: Already from the first days the result is visible, for the final result it will take 2 – 3 months.

THE PREPARATION

As with all cosmetic procedures, the first visit to the plastic surgeon’s office is necessary. There, after a detailed medical history, there will be a a detailed clinical examination and liver and prostate problems as well as the use of anabolic steroids or other drugs should be excluded.

The types of gynecomastia, depending on the composition of the male breast in fat and mass gland. Depending on the species, the way of treatment varies.

The categories of gynecomastia are:

1. Small amount of mass glandlike a big button, just below the nipple. There is no excess fat in the chest, nor excess skin. Treatment: removal of the gland with a small incision around the nipple.

2. Generalized, diffuse gynecomastia with an increased fat composition, with no apparent limits. The treatment is liposuction, with or without a combination of mass gland removal, through a small incision in the nipple.

3. Generalized gynecomastia, quite advanced, with obvious excess skin and nipple drop. Treatment similar to breast reduction, with the nipple placed at a higher point.

The second category is the most common and the third the rarest. During your visit, the plastic surgeon will answer any questions you may have and explain which treatment is appropriate in your case.

THE INVASION

The procedure can be performed under either local or total anesthesia, depending on the size of the problem. The surgery lasts one to one and a half hours and immediately afterwards a special, elastic bandage is applied.

If the operation involves only liposuction, which is the most common, the return home is on the same day. There will be a little swelling and bruising, which will last for about ten days.

The feeling of pain varies from person to person, but is easily reduced with the use of common analgesics.

In the case of simple liposuction, the incisions are very small, 2-3 mm and are very difficult to see.

In the case where the removal of a massive gland is needed, which cannot be done by liposuction, it is performed through a semicircular incision, about 3-4 mm long, in the contour of the nipple. This incision is sutured with absorbable sutures, and due to the presence of hair in the area, it is very difficult to see.

In the very rare case where the gynecomastia is very large, incisions are made outside the nipple, and a drainage stay may be required for 24 hours.

THE RENEWAL

One week absence from work. At the end of the procedure, a follow-up visit to the plastic surgeon is required to check the area.

Special elastic bandage for 3 weeks.

Back to the gym on the 4η week.

Most of the swelling will subside after the first 10-15 days and completely after three to four months. There may be decreased sensation in the breast area, which returns to normal over time in most cases.

The result of the surgery is to improve the external appearance of your body. In all cosmetic procedures there are limits to the amount of improvement that can be achieved and you will discuss these limits with your plastic surgeon.
